Coffee or Tea?

Coffee or Tea

It’s always been easy for me

Born in the USA, I spent many years away

In a country where drinking tea was the way

And so tea I drank all day long to keep alert and awake

While studying, working and hanging out just for sake

When I returned to America, I saw coffee everywhere

I started enjoying regular coffee instead of tea here and there

Not once did I wince or try to hold on to a habit I had formed

Integrating back, assimilating and being local I conformed

Doing what the locals do, blending and re-learning I found

Coming back to the place of my birth I cherished things abound

I did not hold on to old things and habits and went with the flow

No resistance, no hurdles did I feel or learn to know

If I had moved back to Italy, France or the land of the rising sun

Why would I not want to enjoy that way of life and relearn

Why do people that move to America hold on to dear life

With all their habits, culture as if being American creates strife

Why move to America if you are not happy with what it stands for

Why not embrace freedom, rugged individualism and so much more

Where’s the fun in that kind of migration and no sense of wow

Where you recreate what you left with no sense of where you are now

Enjoy your own culture and also blend and realize the virtue and beauty of this land

Go deep, read and learn and create your own footprint in this soil and sand

Coffee or Tea, that isn’t the question for me

It’s My Country ‘Tis of Thee

Be Mindful.
